Mighty Minis Donington Park Night Race

The Mini on the cusp of becoming fifty years old since its initial launch is still making motoring history. This weekend Donington Park circuit will host the first ever night races for the Standard Mighty Minis (class ‘A’) and the Super Mighty Minis (class ‘B’). As this is their 2008 championship final and the championship title fight being as little as three and five points adrift this will be two scintillating races.

This has historical importance, as this has never been done before in the world, as well as this fantastic spectacle, when the racing ends there will be a massive fireworks display, the event is expected to attract crowds in their thousands.

‘I am really thrilled that we are able to conjure up new ideas and concepts for our Championship competitors and to be able to facilitate the first ever night race for the Mini in it history has been an interesting challenge’ Says Rodger Tello owner of Mighty Minis racing.

Mini sales soar in United States

Sales in the United States of the UK-produced Mini have soared ahead of those in Britain for the first time.

A 27% rise in US sales in the year to September led to 40,694 Minis being sold. Over the same period in Britain, some 35,496 Minis were sold. The soaring price of petrol has fuelled the car’s American success.

About 80% of the 240,000 Minis produced annually at the company’s plant in Oxford are exported. (Daily Mail: October 24).

It has been expected for some time that sales in the USA would overtake the UK. This is probably because the big gas guzzlers are starting to cost a lot more to run and drivers are looking to cheaper alternatives
